Sicily to Croatia
Heading for Dubrovnik. This
passage will take 4 to 5 days and we are using the windvane steering
for the first time.
Sicily to Croatia
Beating into a force 5 headwind - the windvane worked
perfectly all the time.
Dubrovnik - Croatia
After clearing customs and getting our cruising permit for
coatia, we are
heading up river to Dubrovnik marina.
Dubrovnik - Croatia
This is probably the nicest marina we have been in - a very
picturesque setting.
Dubrovnik - Croatia
Spent a couple of afternoons and evenings in Dubrovnik - very
touristy but quite
a nice place.
Dubrovnik - Croatia
Also spent an afternoon in the pub watching Leeds v Watford.
Very disappointing as Leeds lost 3 - 0. At least it is sunny!
Polace Mljet - Croatia
One of many great anchorages here.
Mali Ston - Croatia
Nige sitting on a bollard.
Mljet - Croatia
Nige sitting on a log.

Great anchorage - got checked out by a customs patrol here.

Sailing past Korcula Town on the island of Korcula.
Uvala Luka - Croatia
It is not always sunny!
Trogir - Croatia
Al doing a bit of needlework.
Uvala Luka - Croatia
There are loads of Uvala Luka's in Croatia - this one is on
the north coast of
Brac. A great anchorage with one restaurant on the beach.

Visiting the waterfalls in the Krka national park just north
of Skradin.
Krka - Croatia
Nige at the waterfalls.
Split - Croatia
Al is the small one sitting on the wizards toe.
Split - Croatia
Al with Fran and Rich at an interestingly named cafe bar in
Split.
Pucisce - Croatia
A small town we visited on the Island of Brac with Fran and
Rich.
Croatia to Malta
Our brief visit to Croatia is over - here we are sailing
downwind back to Malta.
Malta to Tunisia
This was a bit too close for comfort -look closely and you can
see a guy
on the stern waving to us.
Matmata - Tunisia
After leaving Croatia we spent a week in Malta and then
sailed to Tunisia - here we are on a trip to the Sahara.
Tunisia
Not the sort of warning you get in the UK.
Matmata - Tunisia
Even in the desert you can sometimes find facilities.
Tunisia
At the side of the Tunisian M1 you can buy dodgy Libyan petrol
really cheap -
probably would not get away with this in England!
Chott El Jerid - Tunisia
Al posing by a boat on the salt lake.
Chott El Jerid - Tunisia
Nige studying the salt crystals.
Chbika Oasis - Tunisia
Just as you imagine an oasis to be - apart from all the
tourists.
Sahara Desert - Tunisia
Al discovers that the desert sand is really fine.
Sahara Desert - Tunisia
Nige is beginning to wish he had not sold his car!
Sahara Desert - Tunisia
Makes a change from sailing everywhere - not as comfortable
though.
Tunis, Tunisia
The souk - lots of stuff for the tourist. Unfortunately we do
not have any room on the boat for tat!
Funchal - Madiera
Bit of a jump here - after leaving Tunisa we sailed via
Sardinia, Spain and Gibraltar. To Porto Santo near Madiera.
Funchal - Madiera
At the Monte Palace Tropical Garden, Nige has found a new
friend but he is asleep.
Funchal - Madiera
Al posing next to a vase. It is the tallest ceramic vase in
the world though!
Funchal - Madiera
Nige posing next to a lion.
Santa Cruz - Tenerife
Not Sydney Opera House but that is what everyone calls it.
This is the Tenerife Auditorium.
Mt Teide - Tenerife
Al and her sister Fiona feeling the cold near the summit of
Mount Teide.
Santa Cruz - Tenerife
Sculpture outside the Theatre.
Tenerife
A touristy day out on the north coast.
Santa Cruz - Tenerife
Just some of our provisions for the Atlantic crossing. Not
sure where
we are going to store it all!
Santa Cruz - Tenerife
More provisions - most of them are Marks and Spencers curry!
Atlantic Crossing
In lighter winds with two jibs poled
out. I
made the second pole using some cheap aluminium tube I bought in
Malta.
Atlantic Crossing
Unfortunately that tube was not strong enough!
Atlantic Crossing
After the pole broke we used the boom and a preventer to hold
the second jib out.
Atlantic Crossing
In lighter winds but we managed a reasonable speed
with the cruising chute.
Atlantic Crossing
Sailing downwind with a small jib in F7-8. We stayed in the
cabin and let the wind vane do all
the work.
Atlantic Crossing
Nige fishing - managed to hook quite large fish on four
separate
occasions but they all got away!
Atlantic Crossing
Al cooking - we managed to eat quite well and still had about
10 days
food and water left when we arrived.
Atlantic Crossing
Storm stew - very tasty!
English Harbour - Antigua
Made it! The passage took just under 23 days and we had no
real problems. Nice to arrive in this great anchorage though.
